In the cold embrace of winter, February manages to bring its own warmth—both in terms of the love for nature and the hard work that goes into organic cultivation. At the farms in Kodai and Tirunelveli, the farming activities may have been fewer due to the weather, but there’s still plenty to talk about when it comes to farming and agriculture. Let’s take a look at the key happenings this month on our farms.
Kodai Farm: Building, Planting, and Harvesting Amidst the Snow

- Construction Update
The construction work on the farm is progressing well. Initially, we had planned to build two rooms, but due to the growing needs, the plans were updated to include three rooms. The new spaces will add to the functionality of the farm and enhance our experience as we continue our agricultural journey here. - Weather and Planting
We didn’t receive much rain this season, but snowfalls made their appearance. Despite the weather being a bit challenging, we managed to get some weeding done. Thankfully, there was one instance of rain, which allowed us to plant coffee saplings. This new addition to our farm is something we’re eagerly looking forward to as part of our organic cultivation efforts. - Weeding on the Roadsides
A significant portion of time was also dedicated to weeding the roadside plots. Ensuring that the paths are clear not only helps with the aesthetics but also keeps invasive plants at bay, allowing our crops to thrive and promoting healthy farming practices.
Tirunelveli Farm: A Quiet Month of Harvests and Future Plans
- Harvesting Bananas and Coconuts
While the activities on the Tirunelveli farm weren’t as extensive, there were still some harvests to be done. Bananas and coconuts were harvested a few times. These fresh produce items were sent to the warehouse, with some kept for personal consumption and shared with friends and family, a result of our ongoing commitment to farming and agriculture.

- Turmeric Harvest
The turmeric rhizomes were harvested this month. After cleaning, boiling, and drying them, we were able to store them for future use. Some raw rhizomes have been kept aside for seeding purposes. To make the most of the turmeric bed, ridges were formed to promote healthy growth in the upcoming seasons, contributing to our organic cultivation efforts. - Upcoming Plans for Lakadong Turmeric
Around the middle of February, we had planned to harvest Lakadong turmeric. Watering has been applied to soften the land, making it easier to cultivate. Additionally, some other pending activities include ploughing the coconut trees, which remain on hold for now, along with the chilly planting that we had planned.
Looking Forward to March
As we step into March, we remain hopeful that the weather will shift to a more favorable pattern, allowing us to resume our farming activities with full energy. Fingers crossed for some rain, and we are looking forward to making the most of the harvest season!
Farm life in February may have been quieter, but the love for cultivating the land and nurturing crops continues to warm our hearts even in the coldest months. Our ongoing efforts in organic cultivation and sustainable farming practices are what keep us connected to the land and excited for what’s to come.
