Farmers in the southern regions of India, particularly in the state of Tamil Nadu, cultivate Karunguruvai rice, also known as “Black sticky rice.” This traditional variety of rice is renowned for its unique characteristics, flavor, and nutritional value.
During the Kuruvai season, Karunguruvai rice, a significant subcategory of the Kuruvai family, grows. Other names for this variety of grain are Orthopaedic rice, Black Kuruvai rice, and Viagra rice.
In India, there are different varieties of rice. Red rice is the best choice among them for people of all ages.

To prepare Karunguruvai rice, soak it in water for at least 12 hours before cooking. After soaking, cook the rice in a pressure cooker for 6–8 whistles. This rice offers various health benefits when included in your diet.
