How to Make Karuppu Kavuni Halwa | Traditional Black Rice Dessert

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Karuppu Kavuni Raw Rice (Black Rice)
  • 1/2 cup Jaggery Powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom Powder
  • 2 tbsp Grated Coconut
  • Water – as needed for soaking and cooking

How to Make Karuppu Kavuni Halwa

  • Soak Karuppu Kavuni rice overnight or for at least 6–8 hours.
  • Drain and pressure cook the soaked rice with enough water for 4–5 whistles, or until soft and fully cooked.
  • In a heavy-bottomed pan, add the cooked rice, jaggery powder, cardamom powder, and grated coconut.
  • Stir continuously on low flame until the jaggery melts and blends well with the rice mixture.
  • Cook until the halwa thickens and begins to leave the sides of the pan.
  • Serve warm, topped with a drizzle of ghee—or enjoy it as a naturally sweet, wholesome dessert!
