How to Make Red Jowar Halwa: A Healthy Twist on Traditional Sweet Treats

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Red Jowar
  • 1/2 cup Jaggery Powder
  • 2 tbsp Milk Powder
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • Nuts (cashews, almonds, or walnuts)
  • 2 cups Water

Steps to Prepare Red Jowar Halwa

  • Grind 1 cup of red jowar (whole grains) into a fine powder using a blender or food processor. The texture should be smooth and fine, similar to flour.
  • In a bowl, mix the ground red jowar powder, 1/2 cup of jaggery powder, and 2 tbsp of milk powder together. Set aside.
  • Boil 2 cups of water in a pan or pot over medium heat.
  • Once the water comes to a boil, add the ground red jowar powder to the boiling water.
  • Stir well to ensure the powder mixes smoothly with the water, without forming lumps.
  • As the jowar mixture begins to thicken, add 2 tbsp of ghee into the pan.
  • Stir well to incorporate the ghee and create a smooth, creamy mixture.
  • Add the jaggery and milk powder mixture into the pan, and continue stirring.
  • Keep cooking until the halwa thickens to a halwa-like consistency, ensuring it is not too runny but holds its shape when spooned out.
  • Once the consistency is perfect, drizzle a little extra ghee on top for a rich texture.
  • Grease a plate with a little ghee.
  • Transfer the halwa onto the greased plate and spread it evenly.
  • Let the halwa cool slightly, then cut it into pieces of your desired size.
  • Top the halwa with your choice of nuts (such as cashews, almonds, or walnuts) for added crunch and flavor.
