Looking for a crunchy tea-time snack? Try this traditional Thattai / thattu vadai made with Kaadu Puttu Flour— a deliciously crisp South Indian treat that’s perfect for festive spreads or as a guilt-free munch any time of the day.
Ingredients:
- Kaadu Puttu Flour – 2 cups
- Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Moong Dal – ½ cup (soaked for 1 hour) Ghee – 1 tbsp
- Warm Water – as needed for kneading
Steps to prepare Thattu vadai
1. Soak the moong dal in water for an hour. Drain and set aside.
2. In a large mixing bowl, add Kaadu Puttu Flour, cumin seeds, salt, soaked moong dal, and ghee.
3. Gradually add warm water to knead into a smooth, pliable dough.
4. Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls.
5. Place each ball between two greased plastic sheets or banana leaves, and gently flatten it using your fingers to form thin discs.
6. Heat oil in a deep pan for frying.
7. Carefully drop the thattais into the hot oil and fry on medium heat until golden brown and crisp.
8. Drain on paper towels and let them cool completely.
Store in an airtight container and enjoy with your evening tea or coffee.
