The Robusta cultivar of banana is one that is grown largely for processing and cooking. Although it goes by the name “Cavendish” banana, that name should not be confused with that of the “Dwarf Cavendish” banana, a separate type. Robusta bananas are more suited for cooking and processing because they have a thicker, more fibrous peel than dessert bananas.
In tropical areas like Southeast Asia and East Africa, robusta bananas are frequently farmed. They are frequently employed in the production of banana-based goods including flour, chips, and other items. Certain traditional foods and cuisines also employ them.
Robusta bananas are comparable to other varieties of bananas in terms of their nutritional value. They are an excellent source of potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and fibre.However because they are largely used for processing and cooking, they are frequently consumed in lesser amounts and do not constitute a sizable component of the diet.
