Thooyamalli Millet Paniyaram Recipe | Healthy South Indian Snack with Sesame Oil

A hearty, savory South Indian delicacy made with the wholesome blend of Thooyamalli Boiled Rice, Foxtail Millet, and Whole Black Urad Dal. Cooked to golden perfection in Kaadu Wood-Pressed Sesame Oil, this paniyaram / appe recipe is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside—perfect for breakfast or a healthy snack.

Ingredients

  • Thooyamalli Boiled Rice 
  • Whole Black Urad Dal 
  • Foxtail Millet (Thinai) 
  • Salt, to taste 
  • Chopped onions 
  • Chopped green chillies 
  • Chopped carrots (optional) 
  • Kaadu Wood-Pressed Sesame Oil

Preparation of kuli paniyaram

1. Wash the rice, urad dal, and foxtail millet thoroughly until the water runs clear. Soak for 10–15 minutes.

2. First, grind the urad dal for 20 minutes until fluffy. Then add the soaked rice and millet, and grind for another 20 minutes into a smooth, slightly runny batter.

3. Mix in chopped onions, green chillies, salt, and grated carrots if using.

4. Heat a paniyaram pan and drizzle a little Kaadu Sesame Oil into each mold. Pour in the batter.

5. Cook until golden brown on one side, then flip and cook the other side until crisp.

Serve hot with tangy tomato chutney or fresh coconut chutney!
