A simple, gut-friendly and nutritious meal made using Kaadu Organics Foxtail Millet — perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. This millet upma, also called a mild khichdi, is loaded with veggies and contains no heavy masalas. Just pure, clean ingredients with natural flavors.

Ingredients for foxtail millet recipes

  • 1 cup Kaadu Foxtail Millet
  • 2.5 cups Water
  • Salt – to taste
  • Ghee
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • A few Curry Leaves
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1–1.5 cups Mixed Vegetables (carrot, beans, peas, capsicum – chopped)
  • Roasted Peanuts – for garnish

How to Make Foxtail Millet Upma

  • Rinse 1 cup of Kaadu Foxtail Millet thoroughly and soak for 10–15 minutes.
  • In a pressure cooker, heat 1 tbsp ghee.
  • Add 1 tsp cumin seeds and a few curry leaves, and sauté briefly.
  • Add the rinsed millet, salt to taste, and ¼ tsp turmeric powder.
  • Pour in 2.5 cups of water, close the lid, and pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
  • Let the pressure release naturally.
  • In a separate pan, heat 1 tsp ghee.
  • Add chopped vegetables and sauté for 2–3 minutes until slightly tender.
  • Add the boiled foxtail millet to the pan and mix gently.
  • Cook on a low flame for 5 to 10 minutes, allowing flavors to blend.
  • Garnish with roasted peanuts and serve hot.

Serving Tips

  • Enjoy with curd, pickle, or a dash of lemon juice.
  • Great for lunchboxes, light dinners, or post-workout meals.
