Ingredients

  • 1 cup foxtail millet (thinai)
  • ½ cup moong dal
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 tomato (chopped)
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Turmeric (a pinch)
  • Salt as needed
  • Water

 

How to Prepare

  1. Wash and soak thinai and moong dal for 30 minutes
  2. Heat oil, add cumin seeds
  3. Add onion and sauté until soft
  4. Add tomato and cook well
  5. Add millet, dal, turmeric, and salt
  6. Add water and pressure cook for 3–4 whistles
  7. Serve hot

 

Quick Thinai Upma (Daily Use)

Steps

  1. Heat oil, add mustard seeds and curry leaves
  2. Add chopped vegetables (optional)
  3. Add water and salt, bring to boil
  4. Add thinai slowly and mix
  5. Cook until soft and fluffy
