Making Halwa

A rich and nourishing sweet, Ulunthu Maavu Halwa is a traditional South Indian delicacy made from roasted urad dal flour, also known as kali maavu. This halwa is packed with flavor and nutrition, making it a perfect snack or dessert for all ages.

Ingredients

  • Urad Dal Kali Maavu – 1 cup
  • Jaggery Powder – 1 cup
  • Ghee – 1 cup
  • Water – 1½ cups

Making Halwa with Urad Dal Flour

  1. In a pan, melt the jaggery powder with water and strain to remove any impurities.
  2. In a separate pan, add ghee and roast the urad dal flour on low flame until it releases a nutty aroma.
  3. Slowly add the jaggery syrup to the roasted flour while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  4. Keep stirring until the halwa thickens and ghee starts separating from the mixture.
  5. Once it reaches the desired consistency, turn off the heat and serve warm.
